Dell Tech Support Tutorials
Wednesday | December 5th 2007 | 11:59PM | No Comments
Last summer I had the wonderful opportunity to work as a remote PC tech support agent for Dell Computers in Salt Lake City, Utah. Although I am not new at remotely helping customers with tech support problems, I found this assignment a refreshing alternative, and a chance to learn techniques unique to Dell support agents.
I also achieved the Dell Tier 2 Certified OEM Support Technician Certification, meaning that I am officially certified by the Dell Inc. as a product specialist. My training specialized in Dell’s top of the line XPS Computers, the Microsoft Vista OS, Microsoft Office 2007, and much more…
During that time I wrote a number of tutorials for both the tech support agents I worked with, and customers who needed further assistance. Two of the tutorials I wrote were requested by customers more than any other;
I am pleased to finally make both of the above tutorials I wrote available to anyone who actually owns a Dell Computer, and needs assistance with the above techniques. The tutorials are full of color photos and all the information you might need to help you through these support issues. Enjoy!

Metascape Mediaâ„¢ Acquires mysticnexus.com
Friday | October 12th 2007 | 9:48AM | No Comments
For those who have discovered the Web Design Portfolio here at Metascape Media, you might have learned about a major project known as The Arcane Space Tileset for Neverwinter Nights originally created and released during the year of 2002.
This project modified Biowares “Aurora” 3D gaming engine to accommodate the Spelljammer Dungeons & Dragons game setting within Neverwinter Nights. With this modification, players could experience the original Adventures in Space game setting previously only available as a paper and pencil game accessory released in 1989.
The whole project was hosted on a domain known as mysticnexus.com. This domain was the Arcane Space Tileset team’s central developer’s network, and became unobtainable until recently…
…Metascape Media is pleased to announce the re-acquisition of mysticnexus.com!
In the future fans of this once lost domain can expect a re-emergence of the original Arcane Space Tileset site, access to all versions of the project including the pre-beta, beta, and version 1.0 Tilesets. But everyone can also expect a NEW 2.0 version of this Tileset with all new Spelljammer Models, and much more!
A specific date has not been set on the Re-opening of this project but keep your eye on mysticnexus.com as Metascape Media ventures forth into the void to bring you: The Arcane Space Tileset for Neverwinter Nights once again.
For all the latest news concerning this announcement please visit the new Mystic Nexus section of our Forum by clicking here.
FN: This Tileset will be for Neverwinter Nights 1 only. A future port to Neverwinter Nights 2 might be considered after the initial version 2.0 Tileset is released.

MySQL Database Import and phpMyAdmin
Tuesday | May 29th 2007 | 10:19PM | No Comments
After much frustration with the MySQL Database Import function in the phpMyAdmin interface, I decided to trouble shoot the consistent errors that surface whilst Importing an Exported MySQL Database. And not only have I figured out how to resolve this issue, but I wrote a tutorial to share this knowledge for everyone who has encountered this problem.
This is not a beginners tutorial, as you need to understand Internet PHP Application Installation and Database technology, but for those who do, and use the phpMyAdmin Interface I hope this tutorial helps you resolve Importing issues.
I recommend downloading the tutorial, which is in PDF file format by CLICKING HERE, as it contains illustrated examples. But for those Pro’s out there, here is the text only version for your convenience:
(In no event shall Metascape Mediaâ„¢ be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability resulting from this tutorials use. you must agree to this Disclaimer before attempting to use the instructions in this tutorial. Detailed legal information concerning this tutorials use may be found within the PDF).
How to re-create a lost or corrupt MySQL Database using the StarField Technologies Inc. phpMyAdmin Control Panel.
How many times have you used the phpMyAdmin Control Panel to export a Database, just to find out that the exact same Database file you exported can’t be imported without errors?
If you’ve ran into that exact same problem numerous times, believe me, your not alone. After troubleshooting the reasons behind this issue, I finally found a tested, and working solution.
Example Scenario:
- Your servers eCommerce solution just lost it’s Database to data corruption.
- Customers are e-mailing, and calling in complaints.
- As the System Administrator, you backed up the Database in a safe place.
- Time is of the essence, so you log into phpMyAdmin ready to import your backup.
- And what should have Imported correctly, gives you the following errors:
- Error SQL query: — phpMyAdmin SQL Dump… MySQL said:
- #1007 Can’t create database ‘yourdatabase’; database exists
- #1044 Access denied for user ‘yourdatabase1′@’%’ to database ‘yourdatabase2′
- or any other number of Import errors!
Steps necessary to solve this issue:
For this example, I will assume you are familiar with Installing PHP based Internet Applications, and are familiar with creating the MySQL Database necessary for most Internet Applications to operate correctly.
Before you begin, you must have already backed up an Exported working MySQL Database from the phpMyAdmin, Previous to your lost or corrupted Database.
- Create a new MySQL Database. During my testing procedures, any name worked.
- Re-Install the Database required Internet Application on your server, making sure to connect your Application to the newly created Database.
- Access your newly created Database by Logging on to the phpMyAdmin Control Panel, and within select the ‘Databases’ link in the menu, then select your Database.
- You should now be within the ‘Table Structure’ tab of your newly created Database. If not, click the ‘Table Structure’ tab.
- Within the ‘Table Structure’ of your newly created Database, select the ‘Check All’ link, and then from the ‘With Selected’ menu choose: ‘DROP’ WARNING: Choosing to Drop your Database Tables will result in permanent loss of all Data within your newly created MySQL Database!
- If all went as planned you now have zero tables within your newly created Database.
- The next step is to manually edit your originally backed up Database, the one you hopefully tucked away safely for emergencies like the above scenario.
- Using a text editor, such as Notepad++, open your backed up Database, (example: 22.63.00.50.sql), select the entire header of your Database backup, and delete it.
- Now that you have deleted the MySQL Heading, select and copy the remaining Database lines from within your text editor.
- Next, within your phpMyAdmin Control Panel select the ‘SQL Tab’. You should now see the ‘Run SQL query/queries on database’ form, which of course is empty.
- You should now paste the previously copied remaining Database lines from the text editor within the: ‘Run SQL query/queries on database’ form. After which you will select the ‘GO’ button.
- If all went as instructed, you should now see all of your previously backed up ‘Tables’ placed correctly within the newly created MySQL Database.
As mentioned previously, The PDF contains Illustrated examples which makes the tutorial easier to follow than the text version above. CLICK HERE to get it.
I sincerely hope this instructional tutorial helps all who have had MySQL Database Importing problems within the phpMyAdmin Control Panel. This procedure has been tested thoroughly, and has worked for me every time. If you have any feedback, or wish to submit an easier process than the one I provided here, please e-mail me using the Contact link at Metascape.

New Domain Controlled Statistics Counter!
Saturday | December 30th 2006 | 1:22PM | No Comments
For the last few months this domain has been using a visitor statistic counter called Statcounter. I must say it was quite impressive and very detailed, yet recently it came to my attention that this counter is some how connected to a source that has been blacklisted as Malware! I tested this accusation with Peer guardian, a free IP blocker that works great protecting your PC from known Malware, and was surprised to find the accusation was true.
It seems as though Stacounter, redirects your IP address to connect to a known Spyware host known as InterCage Inc. Is this harmful? Well, probably not, as I believe this is just an advertisers attempt to track customers, yet suffice it to say, we had to re-think using Stacounter because some firewalls, and adware program seemed to block this domain, and we couldn’t let that happen to our valued customers, and curious visitors… Bye Stacounter, we will miss you… The solution: Level 10!
Statcounter was a based on a server outside of the Metascape domain, and thus beyond our control. But with Level 10 Designs making a statistic counter available as an installable database driven script, we finally have a counter fully operational from metascapemedia.com! Metascape Media would like to thank Level 10 Design for their wonderful visitor statistic counter, it works great! So when you start to see little blue graphic images that say “Level 10 Hit Counter” appearing at Metascape Media, you can be rest assured that any attempt from an unwanted outside advertiser to infiltrate this domain has been exterminated.

The Developers Log Gets A Facelift
Wednesday | August 9th 2006 | 3:00AM | No Comments
Welcome to the new and improved Metascape Media developers log. The old log was completely HTML, and was created by myself months ago. I thought it was time to update the original design. Thanks to Kat, Metascape’s top CSS design developer, this log is 100% WordPress PHP.
Speaking of development, Metascape Media will be opening before the end of August, (we hope), with one out of three Website departments complete. Most of the development completed has been focused on Music Production, including the Music store, Album graphic design, literature, WAV mastering, MP3 conversion, HTML, and CSS design.
Kat has been the lead CSS developer during this whole process, and I must say that without Kat’s extraordinary skill’s, the graphics and Logos I have created for Metascape wouldn’t shine as bright as they do.
